Non-Executive Development Programme 2026

The 2026 NXD Programme, delivered by FWB in partnership with the University of Edinburgh Business School, begins in just four weeks.

Now in its seventh year, the programme is designed for aspiring and current Non-Executive Directors, as well as senior executives considering a future Board career. It provides practical insight into the realities of effective board leadership and governance, helping delegates build the knowledge, confidence and judgement needed to contribute effectively in the boardroom.

With boards navigating rapidly evolving technology, heightened regulatory expectations, cybersecurity risks, geopolitical uncertainty and increasing focus on sustainability and organisational resilience, the role of the NXD has never been more important.

The 2026 programme has been designed around the issues currently shaping board agendas, combining expert-led sessions with real-life case studies, interactive discussion and peer learning. Delegates will hear directly from experienced Chairs, NXDs and subject-matter experts, with plenty of opportunity to explore practical boardroom challenges and apply their thinking.

This year’s programme will explore:

💠 AI, Organisational Design & Board Governance – how AI is changing organisational design, decision-making and accountability.

💠 ESG Compliance & Sustainable Business Strategy – how ESG is evolving from compliance to a strategic consideration of value, risk and performance.

💠 The Global AI Revolution – the impact of AI on sectors, competitive dynamics, innovation and strategy.

💠 Cybersecurity & Organisational Resilience – the evolving cyber threat landscape and the Board’s responsibility for organisational resilience.

💠 Board Effectiveness & Governance Best Practice – what makes an effective Board, including the importance of Board information, diversity of thought and effective decision-making.

💠 Geopolitical Risk & Boardroom Decision-Making – how global events, supply chains, regulation and geopolitical instability can impact organisations.

The programme concludes with an in-person session at the University of Edinburgh, giving delegates the opportunity to meet fellow participants, continue discussions and build their network. The six core sessions are delivered online from 6pm–8pm, with recordings available to support continued learning.
