Chair

About the role

Founded by Jen Hardy in 2020, an Edinburgh resident who has stage 4 incurable secondary breast cancer. Jen was diagnosed on 18th October 2017 and while searching for more cancer support, Jen noticed that there was no single place that listed the hundreds of different services, support providers, information channels and free treats. It was this realisation that prompted Jen to create Cancer Card, creating a single place for anyone affected by cancer to access the support they need.

The primary goal of the charity is to assist the NHS by supporting everyone who is affected by cancer, enabling them to directly access relevant information, services, and support, all in one place. At a time that can be so overwhelming, Cancer Card provides somewhere where people affected by cancer can access the help they need, all in one place. What sets the charity apart is their commitment to personalised support. Every individual’s cancer journey is unique, and their support needs may vary. Since the beginning, they have successfully linked more than 300 cancer support services, fostering collaboration among national and local organisations.

Chair Appointment

To help support the rapid growth and future ambitious plans of the charity, Cancer Card are seeking to appoint an experienced Chair.

We are looking for someone with strategic, commercial acumen, who can lead with integrity, an ethical stance and independent judgement. Chairing Board meetings and attending other commitments as required, being available as needed to provide appropriate advice and mentorship and maintaining regular contact with fellow Trustees and the Cancer Card CEO will be expected.

The Chair will be passionate about the mission to improve the lives of those affected by cancer and will bring the skills and experience necessary to help further develop the charity. This will include overseeing governance and controls and exploring new opportunities to help shape the future of Cancer Card, whilst providing effective leadership to the Board of Trustees and mentorship to the senior team.

Importantly, they should have a proven ability to lead and inspire others, setting the tone for the charity's culture and ensuring that Board members are aligned to Cancer Card's vision and values. The Chair will be pivotal in ensuring the continued success of this truly incredible legacy Jen has built.
