About the role
Transition Extreme is a social enterprise established in 2007 that aims to use and promote adventure sports, physical activity, play and creativity to bring about positive changes in peoples’ lives. It operates out of its Extreme Sports Centre on Aberdeen’s beachfront and provides year round sports and leisure facilities including rock climbing, in-line skating, skateboarding, BMX, outdoor adventure area, retail, café/community facilities and meeting spaces.
The Chair leads the Board and acts on its behalf and on behalf of the company. The appointee will Chair 4 – 6 Board meetings per year, conduct regular monthly sessions with the CEO, and occasional meetings with key stakeholders. Outside of Board meetings the Chair would be expected to seek the advice of other board members or the Chief Executive as necessary. There is a strong leadership role to be played both of the Board and externally with stakeholders and in the community, and the Chair will lead on the investment into, and strategic development of, the charity.
The appointee will have successfully operated within a Board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation and will demonstrate a clear understanding and experience of good governance. Strong empathy with the mission of the charity, an interest in sport for development and a passion for supporting people who are marginalised would be a prerequisite for any prospective candidate.
