Chief Executive Officer
About the role
The Association for Project Safety (APS) is one of the largest UK membership construction health and safety risk management membership bodies. It is passionate about its members and the delivery of high quality services. Since its founding in 1995 the organisation has worked across the UK and further afield from its base in Edinburgh. It has a turnover in excess of £1.5m and over 5,000 members specialise, lead and works closely with the other construction institutions and associations in relation to health and safety design risk management.
The new CEO is sought at an extremely exciting time for APS as it is at the forefront of Construction Health and Safety design Risk management and are expanding our horizons beyond a legislative base requirement. The Association has a stated strategy (and significant opportunity) to increase membership in size over the next five years, including potential international expansion.
As part of this, the Association is looking to develop policies to secure its business objectives that embrace the provision of education, training and qualifications to meet the newly introduced Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015. As a result there is an opportunity to develop more effective and cost efficient services resulting from a sea change within the UK towards this broader deregulatory economy that may effect and create new demands of the members and resources.
The CEO will be responsible to the Directors of the Association with the President, as Chair, normally the representative of the Board and be responsible for the development and implementation of policies to achieve the Board’s strategic objectives and for overseeing the management and the operations of the Association.
Nature of the job:
As the Chief Executive, you will provide leadership to Operations Manager and all staff within the Association and play a critical role in working with the Directors in shaping the Association’s future as it looks to achieve the appropriate new recognitions for its work and that of its members that has allowed its members to play a key role in the wider construction economy since 1995.
These are exciting times and as the Chief Executive you will not only need the talent, ambition and commitment to meet and implement the challenges ahead but also to retain and grow the membership base by innovation and partnership working to ensure the continued success and broad range of membership levels that are proportionate to the industry’s needs. To achieve this you will have knowledge of the construction industry or be willing to learn and adapt quickly in the new role. We would also expect you to have knowledge of current communication, social media and effective use of Information Technology.
The Role:
The role is full time and predominantly office based in Edinburgh with some national travel when and where required. You will be working in partnership with the Directors to advise on strategies and to develop policies which will result in tangible improvements to the business year on year. You will provide strong and inspirational leadership, ensuring APS receives the appropriate recognition for the services the Association and its Members provide and that APS is ready to achieve chartered status within an agreed period. You will drive further development and improvement of our services to reduce demands on APS’s resources.
