Group Legal Counsel

About the role

Scottish Water is the UK’s fourth largest water company serving over 5 million customers across Scotland.  That makes it the biggest customer facing business in the country.  Its vision is to be trusted – trusted to care for the water on which Scotland depends and trusted to serve Scotland.

The Group Legal Counsel plays a key and prominent role in the business and is responsible for its Corporate Legal functions.  This ranges from managing a high volume of commercial activity to responsibility for governance and compliance across the business.  As Company Secretary the GLC will also attend Board meetings.

Reporting to the Group Finance Director the position will lead a team of 14 professionally qualified solicitors and support staff (who were voted Scottish in-house Legal team of the Year 2013).

Candidates will be a Scottish Qualified solicitors with a strong understanding of Board Management and an ability to combine an in-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory affairs with a practical approach to delivering business solutions.  They will also be a strong leader who can champion a culture of continuous improvement and change management as well as contribute to the development of longer term strategic plans for Scottish Water.
