Executive Leadership Programme – How to be Effective in the Boardroom

  • Leadership Development

Last night we were delighted to host the 5th session of our Executive Leadership Programme with University of Edinburgh Business School, this week's topic was 'How to be Effective in the Boardroom'. The session was led by Professor John Amis where he shared some real life well known boardroom examples of ineffectiveness and lack of governance, a short history on the importance of governance, when and why regulation came into effect and the challenges boards face across PLC, private and not for profit organisations. The need for connection and communication was clear.

We were then joined by our speaker, Fiona MacLeod who is the Chair of the Scottish SPCA amongst many other Non Executive and consultant roles. Fiona candidly shared her own professional values and how that has formed her leadership style across her impressive global Executive career. She walked us through an insightful presentation around board priorities and shared her view of the need for space in a working relationship between Executives and Non Executives, some candid tips on how to influence and get the best from professional relationships and the importance of finding something that you have a real passion for and that you can find fun in.

It was a lively and candid evening attended by our 2023 cohort of Executive Leaders across a variety of industries and sectors from across the UK running across 8 sessions from August to December each year.
