FWB advises Robertson Group on the appointment of John Watson as Chairman

Sir Bill Robertson has announced the appointment of John Watson as Chairman of Robertson Group, along with his decision to step back from daily involvement of the family-owned leading construction, development, infrastructure and support services business.

He said: “Robertson Group celebrates 60 years of trading this year and over that time has evolved into an established portfolio of successful businesses.  In the past couple of years, we have implemented a change in our operational structure with each business operating separately, while still being part of the Group and upholding our long-established principles and values.

“Separate businesses is a new environment for us, and I am pleased to welcome John who brings considerable experience of business growth and investment across multiple sectors.” 

Robertson Group delivered revenue of ?793M and PBT of ?20.2M (2025) following a previously challenging trading year; the return to profit reflected the strategy of supporting separate businesses within the portfolio and focussing on quality projects over quantity.

Speaking of his appointment, John Watson, said: “Robertson Group is a mainstay of the built environment in Scotland and across northern England, developing local workforces and supply chains to support regional economies while delivering iconic buildings and quality services in the communities it serves.

Sir Bill Robertson will continue his role as Chairman of the Robertson Family Office and concluded: “Robertson Group has evolved greatly over the last 60 years, and we are setting it on a secure path for years to come.”
