About the role
The Director of Offshore Energy & Infrastructure is responsible for the development and management of Crown Estate Scotland’s offshore and coastal energy and infrastructure assets and plays a critical role in progressing the just transition, enhancing nature and supporting sustainable communities. Energy & Infrastructure provides a combination of technical development and asset management skills, with key expertise across areas of renewable energy.
This is a key leadership role, and we are looking for candidates with experience of building and leading high-performing, motivated teams and promoting cross-team and cross-organisation working.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure the professional, effective, efficient and sustainable management of the offshore energy and infrastructure portfolio.
- Timely deployment of asset management practices to maintain and enhance the existing portfolio of OE&I activities, as well as developing new services and solutions that support our corporate purpose.
- Lead Offshore Energy & Infrastructure teams to deliver Corporate Plan and Business Plan objectives.
- Support the portfolio and tenant businesses to thrive and transition in response to environmental, economic, policy and legislative shifts.
- Identify innovative opportunities that align with our purpose of ‘investing in property, natural resources and people to generate lasting value for Scotland’.
- Ensure the efficient and sustainable development of Scottish Crown Estate assets that are co-dependent on the seabed through effective use of internal and external resources.
- Meet the offshore energy and infrastructure business, financial and operational targets, contributing to or leading specific delivery activities as required.
- Advise the Chief Executive (Accountable Officer), Chair and Board on strategic and operational risks and opportunities relating to the assets under management.
- Act as Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for major projects and commercial initiatives.

Candidate requirements
Candidates should have a relevant degree, ideally technical, financial or legal. You will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of business including financial management, financial analysis and forecasting, business case development, commercial acumen and market knowledge. We are looking for extensive experience leading the successful delivery of a business unit with commercial arrangements that generate net profit of more than £10m per annum.
Direct experience of local government or central government business case process in relation to investment projects is advantageous.
