FWB are delighted to have partnered with the University of Dundee on the appointment of their Chair of Court, Esther Roberton.
Following a rigorous search process led by Kirsten Hendry and Ailsa Sutherland, with a particular focus on experienced Chairs with a depth of experience across Scotland’s public sector and a strong interest in the higher education sector, Esther was elected with a clear majority from the university electorate. As well as being aligned to Dundee’s culture and values, Esther brings a wealth of experience as a Chair and Non-Executive Director across higher education, the public sector and the third sector. Esther has served on the Boards of the University of Aberdeen, NHS 24, NHS Lothian, Fife Cultural Trust, the Scottish Government, the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Scottish Further Education Funding Council and NHS Fife. She previously sat on the Court of the University of Dundee between 2000 and 2007 and also led the Roberton Review of legal services regulation in Scotland in 2017.
Commenting on the appointment from FWB, Kirsten Hendry noted:
“The higher education sector is crucial to Scotland’s economic, social, and cultural success, and the University of Dundee is central to the vitality and future of the city and region it serves. As a globally respected institution with deep civic roots facing significant challenges, the University now more than ever, requires leadership of the highest calibre. The appointment of Esther Roberton as Chair of Court reflects both the significance of the role and the strength of the University’s ambitions. It has been a privilege to lead this search and to support the Court in securing a Chair with the required strategic governance experience as well as a clear and genuine commitment to Dundee and to Scotland’s higher education sector.”
Commenting on her appointment, Esther said:
“Delighted to have been elected as Chair of Court at University of Dundee, a fantastic institution for which I have huge admiration and affection. Looking forward to leading the Court in the continued effort to rebuild after the recent governance and leadership challenges.”
FWB are proud to have supported the University of Dundee on Esther’s critical appointment, reinforcing their commitment to excellence in leadership, corporate governance, and the Higher Education sector. We wish Esther and the University every success going forward.
