Brian, a qualified engineer, began his working life in a large Scottish engineering firm, where he managed various departments before leaving to take up his first Managing Director position in his mid-twenties. He has since been involved with businesses at Board level for over four decades. He has worked in many sectors including, Automotive, Software, Technology, Construction, Electronics, Professional services, Recruitment, and Engineering.

Today, he is an active investor in technology companies and the main shareholder and sits on the Board of Synlata, which develops business in 12 countries for some of the largest technology companies in the world. Brian has held previous Board positions such as NXD of Equity Gap, the angel syndicate, as well as being the former Chair of Elevator, the largest private business support organisation in Scotland.

In 2022 he was recognised by the Institute of Directors as Non-Executive Director of the Year for 2021. He has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate.
