The annual Scottish HR Leadership Group Dinner, was held on 25th October 2018, and was proudly hosted by FWB Park Brown.  The Scottish HR Leadership Group brings together senior HR leaders and influencers from across the country.  This year’s dinner was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh, with around 140 guests in attendance.

The evening was compered by Sandy Begbie; Chief People Officer & Lead Executive for China, Standard Life Aberdeen and Chair, Scottish HR Leadership Group and Alix Meekison, Director, FWB Park Brown and Secretary, Scottish HR Leadership Group.

Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth, Group HR Director at the BBC was the keynote speaker on the evening.  Valerie spoke about the challenges many companies are facing in today’s operational climate: increasing competition; demographic upheaval; rise of digital technology; need to reduce cost; and increasing pace of change innovation. She also described the actions which have been taken to address diversity across the BBC and also the gender pay gap. The discussion was then opened to the floor generating thought provoking dialogue and great conversation amongst the guests.

Alix Meekison commented “we are so grateful to Valerie for taking us through much of the BBCs HR strategy and some of the detail around its implementation. Valerie also explained the competitive landscape in which the organisation operates and how the changes in HR are positively impacting on the BBC.”

On the evening money was also raised for the Groups’ chosen charity ‘The Shoe That Grows’ a charity that provides shoes to children in Africa that expand up to five sizes which allows the footwear to last longer.  Over £2,500 was raised on the night, meaning that 225 pairs of shoes are heading to children in Kenya.

The Scottish HR Leadership Group was established in 2017 and now has 125 members.  The Group is a senior networking forum which aims to: advance the HR profession in Scotland; provide access to senior individuals across the profession for development; and influence the broader societal agenda.
